Online Maritime English Test (MET) for Junior Deck Officers

ABS Approved Testing to Determine the English Proficiency of Junior Deck Officers – Compliant under IMO Model Course 3.17, SMCP & STCW

Course Introduction

The Officer of the Deck is assisted by the Junior Deck Officers, who are in the process of qualifying as full Senior Deck Officer. Typically, Junior Deck Officers have the conn, (i.e., control of the engines and rudder), and must learn and enable themselves to become worthy of becoming a capable OOW, competent enough to carry out the navigational watch solely. The above duties demand a very good standard of English, and the VIRSEC Maritime English Test for Junior Deck Officers is designed to assist Ship Operators and employers make recruiting and training decisions by assessing the English language understanding and skills of crew in this role.
