Frequently Asked Questions:
AI Proctored Assessment

What happens if I drop off the internet during my AI Proctored Assessment?

If the internet drops off whilst you are under the AI Proctored Assessment, you must re-open it immediately to be able to continue where you dropped off. Prolonged delay in rejoining will result in a failed attempt. Please note: VIRSEC are not responsible for your Internet connectivity, so ensure you use a reliable connection.

Do I need to show any ID during my AI Proctored Assessment?

Yes, you will be required to show your personal photo ID to the camera prior to being granted access to the assessment. Failure to provide a valid ID or failure by the AI Proctoring System to match the ID image with the learner will result in a failed attempt.

How many attempts do I have at the AI Proctored Assessment?

You have two (2) free attempts to pass your official assessment under the AI Proctoring System. If you fail the first attempt, you can try again (if you have sufficient time). If not, please contact us at training@virsec.org to request a second attempt as we will need to send you a new link. If you require any further attempts, a fee of £15 GBP will be required per attempt to cover licence costs. This must be paid in full before any official certificate is issued.

Is the AI Proctored Assessment timed?

Yes, you have a maximum time of 180 minutes (3 hours) to complete the assessment. It is advisable to time yourself when undertaking the assessment.

Can I use my Course Notes during the AI Proctored Assessment?

Yes, this is an ‘open book’ type assessment, and it is permissible to use any notes made, or the official course notes downloads available to you during the assessment to research the correct response or responses.

What happens if I access the assessment before I complete the course learning in full?

If you access the proctored assessment before you complete the online learning phase of the course, you will automatically be failed, this is a mandatory requirement of the MCA. Ensure that you adhere to the requirements to prevent unnecessary delays or issues with your course and certification.

How does the AI Proctoring work?

When accessing the link sent by VIRSEC you must follow the online instructions. The system will monitor you during the assessment and report to VIRSEC any issues that it is designed to identify. You must ensure that you treat the assessment seriously, under exam conditions. Once you have completed it, VIRSEC will receive a report which we will use along with the video taken to determine if you took the assessment correctly. If we deem so, we will pass you on this part of the course. If there are any serious breaches, we will fail you and you will be notified.

When will I receive my AI Proctored Assessment link?

AI Proctored Assessment links are sent out to learners upon purchasing the related course during UK Office hours. These are 0900 to 1700 hrs (GMT/BST) Monday to Thursday, and 0900 to 1500 hrs (GMT/BST) Friday. If you purchase a course outside of these hours, your AI Proctored Assessment link will be sent to you the next working day. Please note that we are closed at weekends and UK Bank Holidays.

Is it a mandatory requirement to be proctored during an assessment?

Yes, under recent regulations provided by the UK DfT Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), it is now a mandatory requirement that all Approved online courses must be proctored. Any company Approved under the MCA who fail to meet this requirement are not compliant with the new standards.

What is an AI Proctored Assessment?

An AI Proctored Assessment is a means of invigilating a learner online during an official assessment, without the need for the attendance of a senior officer to attend as an invigilator. The official assessment will be accessed via a hyperlink emailed to the learner when they have purchased one of our courses that require the proctoring.
