About the Course
The online UK DfT Maritime & Coastguard Agency (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course for Passenger Vessels is a required STCW certification for crew and staff under the supervision of the Ship Security Officer (SSO) who perform designated security functions on board. Additionally, we also offer tailored versions of the Designated Security Duties Course designed for the Merchant Vessels and Luxury Yachts sectors.
The PDSD course provides passenger vessel crew & staff with the required training for conducting designated security duties onboard. The course meets with the Knowledge, Understanding, and Proficiency (KUP) requirements of STCW Table A-VI/6-2, in accordance with SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the ISPS Code.
The online (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course for Passenger Vessels is fully Approved by the UK DfT Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) holding international recognition. The course certification encompasses the 2010 Manila Amendments and aligns with the requirements of Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 6 to 8 of the STCW Convention and Code, as well as Table A-VI/6-2.
There are five Course Outcomes:
- Know why ship security is important and knows the roles and responsibilities of the organisations and individuals involved.
- Know what constitutes a security risk, threat and vulnerability to the ship, its personnel, cargo, and operations.
- Understand the capabilities and limitations of security methods, equipment, and systems.
- Know how to maintain the measures in a ship security plan and related requirements.
- Maintain the effectiveness of security arrangements, procedures, and equipment at the three security levels, considering their limitations.
The online (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course for Passenger Vessels takes eight (8) hours. There is some room for flexibility for reading speed. Completion requires meeting this minimum time and passing the official assessments. This is a mandatory requirement set by the MCA.
There are no prerequisites for attending this online course.
The (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course for Passenger Vessels is designed for those seafarers and maritime personnel responsible for shipboard security-related tasks. It applies to crew members on board passenger vessels who assist the Ship Security Officer (SSO) in implementing the Ship Security Plan (SSP).
